President of A3 S. D. Bosanac attended the 2nd International Deep Space Exploration Conference (2nd IDSEC, Tiandu Forum 2024), on September 4th to 6th. The conference took place at the Huangshan Crown Plaza Hotel, Anhui, China, which is the UNESCO World Heritage Site. DSEL is jointly established by the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the People’s Government of Anhui Province, and the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Its main aim is dedication to pioneering research and innovative technologies in the field of deep space exploration.
The 2nd IDSEC consists of a main forum (first day) and 4 sub-forums (second day), focusing on International Lunar Research Station (ILRS), Deep Space Technologies & Engineering, Deep Space Exploration Scientific Research, Deep Space Resource Development and Application, and Deep Space Industry & Investment. Over 500 international and home experts attend, more than 100 academicians, renowned professors, and industry & government leaders delivering keynote speeches.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to presentation of new partner states in the DSEL project, giving an overview of their activities.
China’s plan for the ILRS follows a two-phase timeline, with completion of the initial phase expected by 2035. This phase will involve the launch of five super heavy-lift rockets between 2030 and 2035, which will deliver the components needed to build a robotic moon base at the lunar south pole. These missions will lay the groundwork for the construction of a more advanced base capable of supporting human life, which is expected to be operational by 2050. Wu Yanhua, the chief designer of China’s deep space exploration project, provided further details of the plan.
The main intention of the ILRS is for science work on the surface of the Moon, with various laboratories involving also human habitats. It is expected that circulation of humans would be on the 6-month basis.
Countries, institutions and individuals comprise international cooperation on the ILRS project. Each one of them participates with their technology, science and ideas, according to their expertise. The basis of cooperation is the UN Treaty for the peaceful use of Space for the benefits of humanity.
Students from all around the world can get education on the level of BSc and PhD at several universities in PR China focused on the ILRS project. Teaching positions are also open for experts from around the world, again focused on the ILRS project.
New campus is open in the Hangzhou city the “Hangzhou International Innovation Institute”, specially dedicated for the ILRS project
It was a special privilege to meet Director General and Chief Scientist of DSEL, professor and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineers, Wu Weiren. Exchange of ideas about DSEL and ILRS, and the ways how Croatia could participate in the ILRS project, took place in the pleasant atmosphere.
